Custom Desktop Fiber Laser Marking Systems for Conveyor Line Side Marking
Chongqing Zixu Machine Works has successfully delivered three custom-configured desktop fiber laser marking systems to a leading manufacturer of micro motors, electrical components, and automotive/motorcycle parts. The systems are designed for side marking on products moving along a low-speed conveyor belt, eliminating the need to stop production for marking operations.
The Customer: A Leading Manufacturer of Micro Motors and Electrical Components
Established in 1994 and headquartered in Chongqing’s Banan District, the customer is a high-tech enterprise recognized as one of China’s major production bases for motorcycle magnetos and starter motors. The company operates multiple divisions including magneto, starter, electronics, generator, machining, and general engine flywheel. Their products serve over thirty domestic motorcycle manufacturers and are exported to Japan, the United States, Germany, South Korea, Italy, Russia, Brazil, Indonesia, Iran, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Turkey.
With an annual production capacity of 15 million units/sets and approximately 2,100 employees, the company has earned numerous accolades including “Chongqing Excellent Private Enterprise” and “Chongqing High-Tech Enterprise”.
The Challenge: Stopping the Line for Marking
The customer produces a wide range of motor and electrical components that require permanent identification marking. Previously, they used a handheld laser marking machine for this task. However, this process required stopping the conveyor belt each time a component needed to be marked. The frequent start-stop cycles placed significant stress on the conveyor belt drive motors and related subsystems, increasing the risk of overheating and premature component failure in their high-volume production environment.

The Solution: Side Marking with Desktop Fiber Laser
Initially, Chongqing Zixu Machine Works recommended a flying mount configuration, which offers a compact footprint and is well-suited for inline conveyor applications. However, the customer expressed a preference for a traditional computer-controlled setup, leading to the selection of a conventional desktop fiber laser marking system configured for side marking.
A key challenge emerged: the systems needed to be mounted alongside the conveyor for side marking, which required significant reconfiguration of the standard cabinet design. The team at Zixu redesigned the structural frame so the marking head could be positioned laterally to mark products as they passed. This also meant all operational interfaces — screen, keyboard, mouse, control panel — needed to be accessible from the operator’s working position alongside the belt.

To provide flexible positioning of the marking area, a manual X-Y axis focus adjustment platform (T-shaped sliding table) was added under the support column. This allows the operator to precisely adjust the marking position relative to the product on the conveyor belt, accommodating different product sizes and marking locations without modifying the machine setup.

Business Value
With the new desktop fiber laser marking systems configured for side marking, the customer can now mark products without stopping the conveyor belt. This delivers several key benefits:
- Continuous production — No need to pause the line for marking operations
- Reduced equipment wear — Fewer start-stop cycles extend the life of conveyor drive motors
- Lower maintenance costs — Less stress on mechanical and electrical subsystems
- Scalable validation — Three units installed across different production lines for evaluation, with potential for broader deployment across additional workshops
