Professional Empowerment for Precision Manufacturing – Laser Cleaning Technology Safeguards Engine Crankshaft Rust Removal
Customer Requirements
Due to batch-based production and delivery, combined with Chongqing’s high local humidity, the crankshafts develop a slight thin rust layer on the surface after being stored for some time. Although the rust is not deep, if not cleaned thoroughly, it will directly affect the product’s appearance quality and may even raise customer doubts about product reliability.
The customer is a professional engine parts supplier, and one of its core products is crankshafts supporting Honda motorcycle engines. As a precision transmission component, the surface quality of the crankshaft directly affects the engine’s operational stability and service life.

Previously, the customer had been using manual grinding for rust removal. This traditional method has obvious shortcomings:
Low Efficiency: Manual grinding depends on operator skill, with slow processing speed, making it difficult to match batch delivery rhythms.

Unstable Quality: Grinding force is hard to control precisely, leading to incomplete rust removal or over-grinding that damages the product.
Potential Risks: As a precision component, the crankshaft has strict requirements for dimensional accuracy and physical properties. Manual grinding may cause local dimensional deviations, affecting subsequent assembly and performance.
The customer urgently needs an efficient, stable, and non-destructive rust removal solution that can remove the thin rust layer while ensuring the crankshaft’s dimensional accuracy and physical properties remain unaffected – thereby meeting Honda motorcycle’s stringent acceptance standards.
Solution
The customer learned about our laser cleaning equipment through social media and, after initial communication, decided to visit our facility for an on-site sample test.
After understanding the customer’s specific needs, we recommended and configured a 200W pulsed laser cleaning machine. This equipment uses a high-energy-density pulsed laser beam and, through precise control of laser parameters, can selectively remove the surface rust layer without damaging the substrate itself.
Accurate Equipment Selection: Targeting the characteristics of the thin rust layer on crankshafts, the 200W pulsed laser cleaning machine can efficiently remove rust while precisely controlling energy output through pulsed mode, avoiding thermal effects or physical damage to the substrate.
Sample Verification First: During the customer’s on-site visit, we used this equipment to conduct a rust removal sample test on crankshaft samples. The customer then sent the treated samples to a third-party laboratory for strict dimensional inspection and physical performance testing. The test results showed: no change in dimensional accuracy after rust removal, physical properties fully meeting standards, and the product being non-destructive with cleanliness meeting requirements.
On-Site Training Service: After the customer confirmed the purchase, we provided door-to-door delivery and on-site training to ensure the customer’s operators could quickly master the equipment and put it into actual production.
Simple Fixture Collaboration: The customer, based on their own production scenario, made a simple support bracket to use with the laser cleaning machine, further improving the efficiency of crankshaft rust removal operations.

Customer Satisfaction
After the laser cleaning machine was put into use, the customer achieved significant improvements in multiple dimensions.
Excellent Rust Removal Results: The 200W pulsed laser cleaning machine can accurately remove the thin rust layer on the crankshaft surface. After treatment, the workpiece surface is clean and uniform with no residual rust, while causing almost no damage to the substrate – fully meeting Honda motorcycle’s acceptance standards.
Significant Efficiency Improvement: Compared with traditional manual grinding, laser cleaning is simpler to operate and faster in processing speed. Combined with the customer’s self-made simple bracket, operational efficiency was further improved, effectively supporting the batch delivery production rhythm.
Stable and Reliable Quality: Laser cleaning uses a non-contact process that does not depend on operator skill level, resulting in highly consistent rust removal effects and avoiding dimensional deviations and quality fluctuations that manual grinding may cause. The third-party laboratory test results also provided the customer with full confidence assurance.
Return on Investment Looks Promising: The customer is currently evaluating how actual cleaning efficiency matches product inventory turnover. Based on the excellent performance of the existing equipment, the customer has clearly indicated they are evaluating plans to purchase additional units of the same model to further expand application scale.
The customer’s manager stated: “The laser cleaning machine has solved our long-standing rust removal pain point. The third-party test results during sample testing gave us confidence, and the training service after equipment delivery was excellent. The current results have exceeded expectations – we are evaluating overall efficiency and preparing to purchase more equipment.”
From an initial introduction on social media, to on-site sample verification, to strict confirmation through third-party testing, and finally achieving equipment procurement and production application – this engine crankshaft rust removal case fully demonstrates our “customer-centric, technology-driven” service philosophy.
The successful application of the 200W pulsed laser cleaning machine not only helped the customer resolve thin rust issues, but also safeguarded the delivery quality of precision components with non-destructive, efficient, and stable cleaning results. The customer’s active evaluation of subsequent equipment purchases also confirms our confidence in product quality and service capabilities.
In the future, we will continue to deepen our expertise in laser cleaning and intelligent equipment, using more professional technology and more comprehensive services to help more manufacturing enterprises achieve precision cleaning upgrades and advance together toward new heights in intelligent manufacturing.
