Customer Visit – Helping Engine Valve Spring Retainers Achieve 12-Second High-Speed Traceability
Customer Requirements: How to achieve clear, accurate, and long-term traceable marking for every component while maintaining high production takt time?

In the production process of core automotive engine components, establishing a product traceability system is crucial. As a professional manufacturer of high-precision engine valve spring retainers, the customer has long faced a thorny challenge.Traditional marking methods rely on manual adjustment of workpiece positioning, which is cumbersome, time-consuming, and difficult to maintain consistency during round-the-clock continuous production. Once positioning deviation occurs, it may lead to offset marks or blurred characters in minor cases, or product scrapping or traceability information confusion in severe cases. The process team urgently needs to introduce an automated marking solution that enables “unmanned intervention, accurate and efficient” operation – one that can free up manpower while improving production line takt time and quality stability.

Solution: Targeting the customer’s actual pain points, we conducted in-depth production line research and customized a fully automatic vision fiber laser marking machine, creating an “place-and-go” intelligent solution with no manual intervention required.

The core advantage of this equipment lies in its high-precision vision positioning system. After the workpiece is placed on the worktable, the vision system automatically identifies the actual angle and position coordinates of the spring retainer, eliminating the need for precision fixtures or manual alignment. The equipment’s intelligent algorithm corrects the laser marking path in real time, ensuring every mark lands accurately in the designated area, with positioning accuracy reaching the micron level. This design eliminates the cumbersome manual adjustment steps and also resolves quality risks caused by workpiece placement deviations.

In takt time testing, the solution’s performance far exceeded customer expectations. Facing the customer’s original production takt target of 15 seconds per part, on-site testing required only 12 seconds to complete a full serial number marking. This not only means a 20% reduction in per-piece processing time but also reserves valuable efficiency margin for full-load production line operation, creating space for the customer to further increase capacity.
Meanwhile, the equipment adopts a compact modular design with a refined overall structure that can be seamlessly embedded into the customer’s existing production line without any modification to the line layout, greatly reducing introduction costs and implementation cycles. The equipment’s operation interface is simple and intuitive – operators only need brief training to get started, truly achieving “install and use, place and mark.”
During takt time testing, the solution’s performance far exceeded expectations: facing the customer’s original target of 15 seconds per part, on-site testing required only 12 seconds to complete a full serial number marking. This means that while meeting full-load capacity demands, valuable efficiency margin is also reserved.

After the solution was implemented, the customer’s production line marking process achieved comprehensive automated upgrading. Marking speed increased significantly, quality stability was strongly guaranteed, and manual intervention was greatly reduced. The customer highly recognized our equipment’s technical performance, response speed, and on-site service, and stated that this solution set a good example for their subsequent advancement of intelligent production line transformation.
The successful implementation of this high-speed traceability project for engine valve spring retainers fully demonstrates the tremendous application value of vision laser marking technology in the automotive parts field. The 12-second takt time breakthrough is not just an efficiency improvement, but a vivid practice of the intelligent manufacturing concept in production line details. We will continue to be customer-demand-oriented and technology-innovation-driven, helping more manufacturing enterprises achieve efficient, accurate, and traceable intelligent production.
